iPads in Kindergarten

Kindergarten students love using iPads. With ease and interest, they navigate through the apps on the device and create content using drawings, photos and voice to text tools. Kindergarten teachers are also getting on board with using iPads. This presentation explains how to book and access iPads in our school, provides guidelines for using iPads and demonstrates a few Kindergarten friendly apps that students can use to share their learning and teachers can document the process.

Students in Kindergarten will be learning how to use iPads. They will use drama to help them remember simple rules and they will be working with a partner on taking turns with the iPad. Once the master the art of using the iPad, they will embark on an author study journey. We will be looking at books by Todd Parr and using "Scribble Press" app to create our own books inspired by Todd's work. On this blog, I hope to document the process and share some of the books we create.

Our learning with iPads continues.  Students are beginning to feel very comfortable with the iPads and they show a good understanding of the FIVE simple rules - clean hands, no liquids, be gentle, listen, and sleep it.  We review the rules each time we meet and we direct students to a specific app that we want them to explore.  In addition, we are looking at the work of Todd Parr and we visit Todd online every time we meet.  Today, we read "Reading Makes Me Feel Good" and we looked a a number of words that the students are familiar with and that have been added to their word wall.  "Word Wizard" is a great app that allows students practice their words and listen to them being read aloud.  Another great app that every primary classroom should purchase!

Learning with iPads begins!
It is amazing how comfortable our little "digital natives" are with new technologies!  Today, we went over the rules and practiced sharing the iPads.  Our goal is to introduce the children to a variety of apps that they will be able to use independently when we start creating books with Scribble Press.
